Trinity Benson/Kelvin McKnight, wide receiver

Right now, nobody has a hold on the Broncos’ punt return position.

The Broncos don’t really need to roster a sixth wide receiver, but they would like to have a difference maker in the return game.

So far, nobody has stepped up in that role.

Trinity Benson and Kelvin McKnight seem like ideal practice squad players at this point, but there is still time for one of them to emerge as a 53-man roster candidate.

We don’t know all of what they’ve been showing in practices, but we’ve heard Vic Fangio talk about the punt return spot being unsettled at this point. These guys have fierce competition from veteran Nick Williams, who has bounced around the league in different iterations of the Shanahan/Kubiak offense.

Williams’ experience in this type of offense and his ability to simply catch punts right now gives him the edge if the Broncos keep a sixth wide receiver.

One of Benson or McKnight needs to beat him outright to get a roster spot.
