The Denver Broncos replaced tight end Austin Fort on the 90-man roster by signing former sixth-round offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty.
The Denver Broncos made the decision to place undrafted free agent rookie tight end Austin Fort on injured reserve after he suffered a torn ACL in the team’s second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fort hurt his knee in a non-contact play and will now no longer factor into the Broncos’ 2019 plans as far as their 53-man roster is concerned.
While the loss of Fort stings, it’s always interesting to see how the Broncos replace players on their roster and they replaced Fort on the 90-man roster by bringing in former New York Giants sixth-round pick Adam Bisnowaty.
Bisnowaty was considered a solid day three prospect coming out of Pittsburgh where he was a two-time All-ACC selection.
Despite his all-conference play in college, Bisnowaty was considered a risky prospect because of his injury history (he had missed time in three of his four college seasons because of injuries) and below-average athletic ability.
The addition of Bisnowaty highlights a fairly underrated problem right now on the Broncos’ roster — lack of offensive line depth.
Bisnowaty isn’t going to solve the Broncos’ problems by any means, but he is at least an interesting possibility for depth on the offensive line at guard and tackle. He played well for the Carolina Panthers last year at least in pass protection, allowing no sacks and only one pressure in four preseason games.
Bisnowaty, still just 25, could develop and become a valuable piece off the bench or could at the very least be a practice squad candidate.
One reason to be confident in this move? The Broncos have Mike Munchak as their offensive line coach, and he’s known for developing guys. Of course, at this point, the irony is that the Broncos’ offensive line depth is pretty concerning, so the catch is that whatever guys get into the Broncos’ program are going to need time to develop.
Hopefully Bisnowaty can show some of the pass protection prowess he did while with the Panthers last preseason and of course with the Pittsburgh Panthers in college. The Broncos could really benefit from someone stepping up and showing they can be a strong option off the bench.
