Broncos tight end room gets smaller with Austin Fort injury
By Tylor Walden
As the Denver Broncos went on to lose to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, they got the worst news possible regarding Austin Fort on the injury front.
On a drive where the Denver Broncos were looking to get back into the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, Austin Fort made an amazing catch to get the team closer to the end zone. Unfortunately, he landed on his leg wrong and appeared in great pain as the cart was brought out for him.
This morning, the worst came to fruition for the rookie tight end who was doing so well in Broncos camp this summer. According to Adam Schefter, Fort suffered a torn ACL injury making the catch in the fourth quarter against Seattle. As expected with all ACL injuries, Fort will be out for the remainder of the season.
It is such a shame to see an up and coming player have his season finished before it could even really begin. Hopefully we will get to see what he can do for the team in 2020.
With the injury, the tight end room in Denver just got a little bit smaller. Jeff Heuerman, Jake Butt and Bug Howard were already injured and it is uncertain how long both players will be sidelined. As it stands right now, the only healthy tight ends on the roster are Noah Fant, Troy Fumagalli, and Moral Stephens.
With a long rest until the next preseason game, I would watch the moves that Denver makes closely in the coming days. They will not take the field for another preseason game until August 19th vs. San Francisco.
There is no doubt that the team in the coming days will place Austin Fort on injured reserve. I am sure the Broncos front office will look at every possible option before the team takes the field again. Broncos Country is wishing Austin Fort a speedy and safe recovery.
