Fullback Andy Janovich will be out for a while due to a strained pectoral muscle. What does this mean for the Denver Broncos?

Fullback Andy Janovich was going to be a significant part of the Denver Broncos offense in 2019 under new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello. However, he will have to wait to play a meaningful game.

Janovich will be out at least 6-8 weeks due to a pec strain.

Janovich spent last year as the team’s fullback and helped undrafted rookie running back Phillip Lindsay top 1,000 rushing yards and get a Pro Bowl nod.

For his career, Janovich has rushed the football twelve times for 50 yards and two scores. He has 17 receptions for 191 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Janovich could be placed on short-term injured reserve, meaning he would be unable to play in a regular season game until at least week eight. It is unknown at this point if he would be ready by that time, but if not, the Broncos need to have a plan.

Their plan, as of right now is to use rookie George Aston in Janovich’s place.

In 2018, Aston played for the University of Pittsburgh and helped the the program average 227.9 yards per game in 2018. In twelve games during the 2016 season, Aston scored twelve touchdowns: six rushing touchdowns and six receiving touchdowns.

That could come into play for the Denver Broncos offense.

It is a disappointing start to the preseason because injuries are never good, especially when games don’t count against the record.

If all goes well, Janovich will be able to return around week eight, but it would not be surprising if he happened to miss more time than that.

As of right now, there don’t look to be any plans on bringing in another player to compete with Aston. It looks as if he will be the team’s lone fullback on the active roster.
