Justin Simmons, S
This is a big year for Justin Simmons.
The former 99th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft is entering his contract year with the Broncos after three years mixed with promise and a bit of inconsistency and lack of great communication on the back end.
Simmons is not at fault for everything that has gone wrong over the last few years in Denver’s secondary, but in order to be a big-money safety in the NFL, he’s going to have to have a big year.
He seems primed for exactly that.
Simmons looks ready to take the next step under Vic Fangio and Ed Donatell, becoming a great all-around safety. He’s been consistently great in every camp practice so far, picking off passes and reading the field exceptionally well.
Simmons’ development is great news for the Broncos as an elite presence at safety has been missing since the 2016 season and possibly even before that.
Simmons is so athletic and explosive, it’s hard to imagine he doesn’t have a breakout season, even by comparison to what we’ve already seen.
