Khalfani Muhammad, RB

The Broncos have a very interesting competition brewing at camp right now for the RB3 job. I won’t say Devontae Booker has lost his hold on it quite yet, but Khalfani Muhammad is doing what is necessary to win a roster spot.

So far in camp, Muhammad has shown:

  • He can return kicks and/or punts
  • He can catch passes out of the backfield
  • He has exceptional speed and open-field elusiveness

The biggest questions at this point revolve around Muhammad’s ability to be a home run hitter on a consistent basis, or if he’s a rhythm runner who needs a lot of reps to get going.

If he can prove he can come in and provide a big spark of speed off the sideline, he would give the Broncos a much-needed infusion in that category. Denver’s offense just doesn’t have much big-time speed.

Muhammad made the play of the day at day two of practice when he went up for a big catch down the sideline over Alexander Johnson to close out practice. He also had some big runs in practice, even the early ones when I was there when people in the crowd mistook him for Phillip Lindsay with his combination of speed and burst.
