Quarterback: Brett Rypien

Over the course of the coming weeks, I don’t think there’s any quarterback on the roster with more to gain than Brett Rypien if he can play well in preseason action.

The Broncos have four quarterbacks on the roster right now: Joe Flacco, Drew Lock, Kevin Hogan, and Rypien.

Flacco and Lock are making the roster, no matter how well either plays. The expectation based on their pay/draft status is obviously that they would play well, but the Broncos are not going to cut Flacco and they’re not going to cut Lock.

Lock could win the Broncos’ no. 2 QB job over Hogan, but the competition here is between Hogan and the rookie free agent, who has impressed in limited reps in training camp.

And when I say limited reps, I’m talking about limited reps.

Rypien is the fourth QB in the pecking order right now, and with most reps being divvied up between Flacco, Hogan, and Lock as well as Rypien, he’s going to have to make it count in preseason action.

If he out-plays Hogan, he could end up taking his roster spot.
