Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock confirmed with the media that he pushed to get a deal done to sign his rookie contract and not miss any practice time.

Drew Lock signed his rookie contract with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday, avoiding a potential training camp holdout from the rookie. The former Missouri quarterback really wanted to be out with his teammates and get to work.

A member of the media asked Lock if he pushed to get a deal done to avoid being behind in the learning process that comes with being new to how things work. Lock said he did, “one-hundred percent”.

That’s a sign of somebody who is taking their job seriously, before even starting. Lock seems like the type of person who is all football. That is his life, and his goal is to help out in whichever way he can until his number is called to enter a game.

Of course, when that is is anybody’s guess but it will not be week one of the 2019 season, unless  Joe Flacco suffers some sort of serious injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time.

The Denver Broncos drafted Lock to be the future, but are in no rush to start their young quarterback. Right now, Flacco is the guy who will be under center. There is no quarterback controversy in Denver. Well, except backup quarterback.

Lock will compete with Kevin Hogan to be the second-string quarterback. However, Hogan will start the 2019 preseason off as the starter against the Atlanta Falcons in the Hall of Fame game. Will that be a big deal? Maybe. Second-stringers typically face a tougher defense than third-stringers. However, experience is experience. It all matters when it’s all said and done.

It is good to finally see a somewhat healthy quarterback room. No, I’m not talking about physical health. I’m talking about the Broncos not having a starting quarterback controversy. The team has struggled at finding a quarterback to “replace” Peyton Manning after Super Bowl 50.

Elway and the Broncos hope that Lock will eventually be the starter. Only time will tell.
