The Denver Broncos have signed running back Dave Williams after he took a physical for the team Thursday. He was a seventh-round pick of the team in 2018.

The Denver Broncos have added another running back to their roster. The team has signed running back Dave Williams after a physical on Thursday.

Williams was drafted by the Broncos in 2018 out of Arkansas but failed to make the final 53-man roster.

He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars off of the Broncos practice squad and had eight attempts for a total of 36 yards on the ground.

Williams rushed for 656 yards and eight touchdowns in his lone season with the Razorbacks. In the three years prior, he played for South Carolina, where he rushed for 794 yards and five touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see what the Broncos do with Williams, as there are already five running backs on the roster. He may very well just be a camp body. With Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker on the roster, it is still possible the team keeps a fourth running back. The others fighting for a roster spot are Khalfani Muhammad and Devontae Jackson.

When the Broncos cut Williams last year, it was a surprise to many. He appeared to have done enough to make the 53-man roster but the team decided to go with Lindsay, Freeman, and Booker.

Maybe this coaching staff will see something in Williams that the last regime did not. Williams is a good running back when it comes to running up the middle but is not so great at running East and West.

It is entirely possible that Williams’ second stint with the Broncos goes differently, this time under offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello. Maybe he will surprise people and knock somebody else off the final 53-man roster.

As of right now, however, he will have to fight for a spot on the team just like everybody else during these next couple of weeks and into the preseason.
