Running Back

Battle: RB3

The Broncos have no question marks at the top of their running back position at this point.

Royce Freeman is very much capable of carrying the ball 200 or more times if they want. Phillip Lindsay has proven he can do the same.

The competition for this team is at the RB3 spot, where Devontae Booker will have to hold off Khalfani Muhammad and Devontae Jackson.

It might seem like a no-brainer for the Broncos to just keep Booker around, but is it? If Booker plays well in the preseason, he could be trade bait for the Broncos as well. The primary carries and touches are going to Freeman and Lindsay, so Booker is the odd man out at this point and somewhat of a luxury.

Simply due to the nature of the position, I think Booker is likely making this roster as the RB3 but you never know what could happen with a guy like Khalfani Muhammad, who has exceptional speed. Jackson has a lot to prove as a small school guy with average workout numbers and below average measurables.

It’s going to be tough for any other RB besides Booker to claim the RB3 spot, but it’s possible.
