1. Coaching

We’ve talked about this move a ton this offseason, but the Broncos’ move to bring in Mike Munchak is one of the best and most fortuitous moves any team made this offseason.

If you want to see the type of substantial impact Munchak is capable of having on an offensive line, we dug up the numbers and looked at what analytics say for you.

PFF didn’t even mention this move in the article they had (linked on the previous page) but it is unquestionably one of the biggest reasons to believe the Broncos’ offensive line will take a step forward in 2019.

You have to have the right personnel, of course, but Munchak has a proven track record of developing star prospects as well as unheralded, undrafted or at least under-drafted guys.

The Broncos didn’t have poor coaching a year ago. Sean Kugler and Chris Stausser coached the interior linemen and tackles respectively on last year’s roster, and both together took some of the young players on this team to new heights.

Kugler was hired on as the Arizona Cardinals’ full-time OL coach and Strausser was hired to coach the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive line, so those guys are good coaches.

But Munchak might be the best.

Dante Scarnecchia in New England has a reputation for being the best offensive line coach in football, and if that’s the case, Munchak is a close second.

It’s hard to explain the impact he has but the proof will obviously be in how well this unit plays collectively on a consistent basis.

Can Munchak clean up some technique? Can he teach these guys to play together consistently?
