Who has the best chance to beat Heuerman?

Prediction: Noah Fant

If anyone is going to take down Jeff Heuerman for the starting job this year, who is it going to be?

For me, it’s a two-man race between Noah Fant and Jake Butt.

There are strong cases to be made for both guys.

Butt was on his way toward taking Heuerman’s job as the team’s top tight end through the first month of the regular season before going down with a knee injury in practice.

One of the best all-around tight ends on the team, Butt has got to stay healthy if he’s going to steal snaps from anyone in this tight end group.

But we also know that Butt is a guy the coaches love and he’s always going to be in the right position. He’s a very smart player who rarely makes mistakes.

Fant is so talented, the Broncos may have no choice but to keep him on the field, especially if the running game doesn’t suffer with him out there.

Not that it would — Fant is a very good run blocker contrary to popular belief, and he’s more than capable of helping the Broncos excel there.

All due respect to Troy Fumagalli, I think it’s either Fant or Butt with the best chance of unseating Heuerman in the starting TE position.
