Seventh round: Rigoberto Sanchez, P, Hawaii (Colts)

Original pick: Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss

I almost just kept Swag Kelly here, but obviously if we’re using foresight or hindsight, that wasn’t the right pick either way.

Therefore, I picked Sanchez, who looks like one of the bright young punters in the NFL today.

The Colts just re-signed him to a long-term extension and Tom McMahon — the Broncos’ current special teams coordinator — was the one who unearthed him.

The Colts almost signed Colby Wadman over Sanchez, so I guess McMahon ultimately got the best of both worlds here.

At this point in time, the Broncos still had Riley Dixon, but specialists who stand out like this guy and players who can truly flip field position are worthy of drafting, and Sanchez has proven he is a player who should have been among the top 252 picks in this particular draft.

Who knows? If the Broncos had put together a draft like this, they might be a lot closer to contending for a Super Bowl right now.
