Fifth round (a): George Kittle, TE, Iowa (49ers)
Original pick: Jake Butt, TE, Michigan
With the top pick of the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Broncos took a shot on the injured Jake Butt.
Denver’s tight end position was anything but solidified at this point, so taking Butt was more of getting a player at a position of need than a luxury.
Butt didn’t play his rookie season, but the guy taken literally one pick after him — Iowa’s George Kittle — has emerged as what I believe to be the best tight end in the entire league going into his third NFL season.
Kittle has been a monster after the catch as Broncos fans know all too well, and broke through as a true no. 1 option in the passing game for the 49ers last year despite their injuries at both quarterback and running back.
This guy is a monster.
