Third round (a): John Johnson, S, Boston College (Rams)

Original pick: Carlos Henderson, WR, Louisiana Tech

As generic as his name is, John Johnson’s play through two NFL seasons has been anything but.

Johnson has 22 pass breakups in 32 career games (started all but five) and he’s really become one of the best strong safeties in the game today. Had the Broncos just gotten rid of TJ Ward prior to the NFL Draft, they may have pursued a strong safety.

2017 was really the beginning of the end for the No Fly Zone, and the Broncos’ front office apparently didn’t foresee it happening as it did.

In 2018, Johnson put together a whale of a season with 119 total tackles, 11 pass breakups, four interceptions, and three tackles for loss.

The Broncos took Boston College defensive backs in 2016 and 2018, so I wonder why they decided to skip this particular year.

They could have a secondary full of Eagles studs, led by Johnson.
