Dre’Mont Jones vs DeMarcus Walker

The Denver Broncos selected Dre’Mont Jones in the third round of the 2019 draft, while Walker arrived via the second round of the 2017 draft.

Jones is a versatile defensive lineman. He is capable of playing anywhere on the defensive line. That is what makes him so intriguing, especially under this new defense.

Walker was put in a bad position last season under the previous regime. He never saw the field because of the depth at linebacker. The last regime asked him to switch to linebacker, but now he’s back at his natural spot: on the line with his hand in the dirt.

This battle is not about who makes the team. It’s about playing time. Both were high draft picks, but when it’s all said and done, it ultimately does not matter where you are drafted. It matters what you do when you are drafted.

With training camp on the horizon, those questions will be answered. Walker, like I mentioned, is a draft pick from the Vance Joseph era. He’s not Fangio’s pick. Will that have an effect on Walker’s status? Maybe, but it shouldn’t. The best players need to play.

If the Broncos feel Walker is best suited in some situations, then he needs to be on the field. Same goes for Jones.
