Cornerback depth
Chris Harris Jr. is back with the Denver Broncos after a contract dispute, which ended with the cornerback getting money added to the last year of his deal, and no added years.
There is a lot of inexperience at cornerback beyond Harris Jr., Bryce Callahan, and Kareem Jackson. Isaac Yiadom had a rough rookie season in 2018 but it will be interesting, and possibly fun, to see how he does in Vic Fangio/Ed Donatell’s system.
De’Vante Bausby has recorded 26 tackles in ten games played during his last two seasons played, 2016 with the Chicago Bears and 2018 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Trey Johnson has not recorded any statistics but was on the roster last season.
I think that the deciding factor for who makes the team at cornerback is the guy who is most physical with the receiver they are covering. Vic Fangio wants physicality in his cornerbacks. That is a reason why the Denver Broncos signed Kareem Jackson.
Jackson, however, has been practicing at both cornerback and safety as a Bronco. He could obviously see time at both positions during the regular season. That is the plan. That would mean that there is a hole at the cornerback position, depending on Jackson’s snap count at safety.
I am very hopeful that the team’s newest additions at cornerback will make a big impact for the team in 2019.
