2019 cap hit: $1.29 million
Years under contract: 1

Kevin Hogan was once a fifth-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs (2016) and has bounced around the league a little bit before finding a home with the Denver Broncos last year.

Hogan performed well for the Washington Redskins in preseason play, and had the Redskins kept him around he probably would have started some games for them as they experienced a nearly unprecedented number of injuries at the QB position last year.

Hogan played particularly well in the Redskins’ preseason game against the Broncos, and Denver apparently took notice.

He was signed as the team’s backup — or one of them — after Paxton Lynch was let go.

Although Hogan has gotten a chance to play in his early years (with Cleveland) he shouldn’t be judged on the whole by what he did there. That was a terrible situation, and he was a young player making his way.

It’s entirely possible that Hogan — who was given a second contract by the Broncos this offseason — can develop into a solid backup or spot starter. Who knows, maybe the Broncos have a real gem on their hands here?

With four quarterbacks currently on the roster, Hogan has a couple of options. He could wind up winning a backup job in Denver and push Brett Rypien out, or he could play well and get traded to another team with a better opportunity for him.

He could also play poorly and be released altogether.

The Broncos re-signed Hogan knowing they were going to add a couple of QBs to the roster, so clearly they believe the former Stanford star can be a contributor if he lives up to his potential.
