Dre’Mont Jones signs his rookie deal with Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos signed third-round defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones to his four-year contract, according to a report from Aaron Wilson.

The Denver Broncos finished up OTAs and will now look to quickly finish up signing their 2019 NFL Draft class.

Half the class has been signed, including first-round pick Noah Fant.

The three players who had not signed as of the last day of OTAs were the Broncos’ day two selections: offensive lineman Dalton Risner, quarterback Drew Lock, and defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones.

We can officially cross Jones off that list.

Jones was the 71st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Broncos.

Coming out of Ohio State, Jones had his best season despite the Buckeyes losing star defensive end Nick Bosa.

Even without Bosa off the edge to command extra attention, Jones emerged as a force this past season as an interior pass rusher and play disruptor with 13 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and an interception he returned for a touchdown.

Vic Fangio’s defense is labeled a 3-4, but it’s hardly a traditional 3-4 defense requiring a 0T or 1T nose tackle on the majority of plays. Fangio uses much more of a 4-3 under look, which fits the Broncos’ defensive personnel pretty well perfectly.

Jones will fit in whether he’s playing the 3T position or anything inside, especially on passing downs.

Despite not posting great workout numbers, Jones’ explosiveness off the ball is what got him picked so high by the Broncos. That, and John Elway just has an affinity for adding defensive line depth early and often in the NFL Draft.

This is the first time ever Elway has waited until his fourth selection to take a defensive player. He has typically taken a defensive front seven player within the top two picks he owns.

Jones was the first defender off the board for the Broncos, and he’s going to play a pretty big role this year.
