Defensive line: Derek Wolfe ‘born’ for Fangio’s defense

If you feel over-inundated with lies in your life, just go and listen to a Derek Wolfe press conference.

This guy shoots about as straight as you will ever see, and he doesn’t beat around the bush, either.

That’s why his take on the Vic Fangio defense is worth reading into, both for his 2019 prospects and beyond that.

"“Falling in love with the defense actually. Last time I felt this was when I was first introduced to [Rams Defensive Coordinator] Wade [Phillips’] defense. I almost feel like I was born to play this defense. I was telling my wife that last night. She was like you know it’s your contract year, where are we going to be, this and that. I feel like I was born for this defense, so I don’t think we have anything to worry about.” Derek Wolfe (all quotes via Broncos PR)"

As you can tell from that quote, Wolfe is quite excited to play in this defense and not just this year — it doesn’t appear he has any intention of leaving Denver after the season is over.

Wolfe’s confidence in this defense should be a good indicator of just how favorable this system is for defenders. The proof of that is in three decades of success for Fangio.
