Fangio on Bradley Chubb

When asked about how Bradley Chubb fits into Fangio’s defense, he had probably the best compliment he’s given anyone this entire offseason.

"“He’s tailor-made for us. I think he’ll take the next step just because he’s a pro much like Phillip already. He’s a very smart football player, very coachable, very intense. I see nothing but bright days ahead for him.” (all quotes via Broncos PR)"

This is great to read.

Chubb is one of the best young defensive players in the NFL, and proved himself to be an instant impact player last year when he recorded 12 sacks, 21 QB hits, and two forced fumbles as a rookie.

He was absolutely outstanding but there are undoubtedly ‘next steps’ as Fangio alludes to that Chubb can take with his game.

What are those next steps? We’ll have to wait and see.

Not that having DeMarcus Ware as a part-time coach and Von Miller as an on-field mentor was a bad thing, but I think having Brandon Staley — a full-time OLBs coach — will help all of the guys in that position group.

I also think it will help to have the accountability of Fangio himself, as the linebacker position is obviously his specialty.

I continue to have to pinch myself thinking about how the Broncos have Chubb. He’s not yet the caliber of player Khalil Mack is, but he was on a similar playing field as a prospect. He wasn’t as high-profile as other edge guys coming out because he came out in a draft loaded with high-profile QBs.

I think the Broncos are extremely fortunate to have a star of this caliber playing opposite Von Miller.
