Von Miller brings his A game every Sunday. However, he achieves much off of the field and has earned recognition for his community service.

We give Von Miller lots of recognition for his play on the field. Why wouldn’t we? He is an elite pass rusher and has likely already earned a trip to Canton in the future when he calls it a career (hopefully not for a while, at least). However, Von’s work off the field is nothing to scoff at, either.

It was announced by the Denver Broncos that Miller will be the recipient of this year’s Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service. The ceremony will be held June 18th in Washington D.C.

Von’s most notable community work is with his charity, Von’s Vision. The official mission statement of Von’s Vision is “to provide low-income Denver children with the eye care and corrective eyewear they need to be their best in the classroom and in life” (per VonMiller.Org).

Von’s Vision has centers located at Colorado Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs, and a location at Texas A&M University, his alma mater.

Von also puts on a football camp for youth each year, this year’s located in Englewood for grades 1-8. The most notable thing about Von’s camp is that it is for an affordable price, actually cheaper than most football camps put on by universities. Keep in mind that you also do not get hands-on instruction from Miller at most football camps, either.

Miller has also participated in the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s Annual Fashion Show, blood drives, army tours, shopping events, and many other community service events put on by the Broncos. If the Broncos are helping the community, you can bet that you will see Von Miller there, putting in his time and showing his love for helping others.

Not only is receiving this award a tremendous honor for Von, but a very special person in Von’s life will be presenting it to him.

Former teammate and friend DeMarcus Ware will be presenting the Jefferson Award to Von on June 18th. This is special to Von and Broncos Country for so many reasons. During Ware’s time with the Broncos, Ware and Miller were a force to be reckoned with and a QB’s worst nightmare.

Even more, Ware was a huge mentor to Miller. Ware mentored Von and matured him into the leader and player he is today. It will be an awesome sight to see for both the two men and for Broncos fans.

Miller was also a 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist.
