While the starting quarterback job has been long decided, Kevin Hogan is looking to show early on what he can provide as the primary backup.
We all know that Joe Flacco will be the starter for the Denver Broncos. That has all been determined. But what could heat up is the backup quarterback job. Kevin Hogan is making sure that he has a say in that discussion.
The Denver Broncos have kicked off the last week of organized team activities before mandatory minicamp begins. The biggest news from the first practice of this week’s OTA’s was the return of Chris Harris Jr. However, Kevin Hogan appears to have caught the attention of the head coach.
As it stands currently, Hogan holds the backup quarterback spot. That could change when training camp gets underway. The look of things from Vic Fangio’s perspective suggests that the quarterback has a solid shot at making something happen.
"“He looks much improved from what I remember. I think he’s done well. I think he’s an improved quarterback from my last look at him which was a couple of years ago.” -Vic Fangio (via Denver Broncos PR)"
Kevin Hogan spent some time with the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins before the Denver Broncos picked him up during final cuts last season. While he did not get a lot of playing time, he is looking to make an impact going forward.
I do not see him playing a huge role for the Denver Broncos, minus if Joe Flacco is forced to miss time. But if he can show that improvement that Vic Fangio saw during OTA’s, it could be promising if his number is called upon.
There will certainly be an interesting battle between Kevin Hogan and Drew Lock going into training camp and beyond. But one thing is certain, Hogan is going to make this as interesting as he can.
