Denver Broncos 2019 Opponent Preview: Kansas City Chiefs

After their matchup with the Titans, the Denver Broncos stay at home to face their rivals, the Chiefs. Both teams will face off in Weeks 7 and 15.

It is no secret as of recently that the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs can not stand each other. And I can certainly understand the frustration. Denver has lost seven straight games against the Chiefs. Kansas City has been the king of the division since Peyton Manning retired. There comes a time where the reign has to end.

When the Broncos and Chiefs meet for the first time, in week seven, both teams will have short weeks to prepare. It will be easier for the Broncos since they get to stay home for the short week. Kansas City will travel on the short week, which could impact the course of the game.

After that meeting, the two teams won’t see each other again until ten days before Christmas in a Week 15 showdown at Arrowhead. If both teams are close to each other record wise and on top, it could make for an interesting showdown.

In the two meetings last year, they were played very closely. A missed attempt by Denver in week four of last year on Monday Night gave the Chiefs a 27-23 victory. The two teams would face off again 27 days later, where the Chiefs secured a 30-23 victory.

The Chiefs are looking to take that next step as they fell one possession short of reaching the Super Bowl. They would be defeated by the New England Patriots in overtime.

Kansas City had a pretty active offseason, mostly focusing on players acquired via trade or in free agency. Some of the notables are Frank Clark and Darron Lee. Their draft was focused more on filling some key needs. Their first pick of the draft was used on a wide receiver, most likely because of the Tyreek Hill situation.

The Chiefs could still become a force in the AFC West. Patrick Mahomes is one of the bigger stars in the league right now. And the Chiefs will be pushing hard to take that next step towards a championship.

Hopefully, the Denver Broncos will be up to the challenge to end the reign of the Chiefs.
