It took about a month before we saw another division opponent, but the Denver Broncos face the Los Angeles Chargers in weeks five and thirteen.

It took three games against the Bears, Packers, and Jaguars before the Denver Broncos would see another divisional opponent. The lucky team that Denver gets to face off in their AFC West divisional slate is none other than Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Denver and Los Angeles split the season series last season, with both teams winning on the road. The Broncos needed a comeback and a last second field goal to get the 23-22 win in Los Angeles before getting smashed in the season finale at home 23-9, in what marked Vance Joseph’s last game as Broncos head coach. (sigh of relief)

In Week Five, the Denver Broncos will be playing for the final time at Dignity Health Sports Park (formally known as Stubhub Center) as the Chargers will move into their new stadium, Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park, in 2020.

Denver will then welcome the Chargers in December for a Week 13 showdown, which should be perfect to welcome a team used to mild temperatures to the cold Rocky Mountain air. Whatever it takes.

Next. Sleepers at every position for the Denver Broncos. dark

The Chargers were pretty quiet in the offseason. They signed Thomas Davis from the Carolina Panthers and Tyrod Taylor from the Cleveland Browns. They used five of their seven draft picks on the defensive side of the football. That makes sense with how much talent they have on offense.

Denver will have to keep an eye on Melvin Gordon during the two matchups. They did a solid job defending him in 2018, limiting him to 111 yards on 28 carries in both matchups last season.

However, the Chargers always seem to give the Broncos fits as of the last few seasons. It will be interesting to see how both teams fair against each other in 2019.
