3. Drafting Drew Lock
Some will scoff at this ranking, but I think many will agree with me when I say that as far as adding players this offseason, no move the Broncos made should rank higher than the drafting of Drew Lock.
First of all, the Broncos got Lock at a bargain basement price.
All offseason, the talk was that Lock would be a first-round pick, most likely a top 10 choice. In fact, pretty much everyone assumed that if the Broncos didn’t take him at 10, there was a 0 percent chance they would be able to get him without trading back into the first round.
When Lock fell out of round one, even still the rumors were that Oakland would take him early in round two.
That didn’t happen.
The Broncos moved up from 52 to 42 in the second round and got their QB of the future.
Lock, to me, was not a second-round prospect in the least. Compare him to Josh Allen last year. Allen went 7th overall and I thought he had horrible college tape.
Lock has four years with some great college tape and some obvious things to work on as well. I would have ranked them similarly, at the very least.
The Broncos lucked out with Lock falling to round two. They finally have a young QB to build around and I think Lock is the best QB prospect to come to Denver since Jay Cutler in 2006.
In fact, the two are quite similar in terms of playing style.
I absolutely love this move, even if the Broncos had to get lucky to make it. It’s the most important move they made this offseason in terms of establishing a future for the franchise.
