Tight end: Jake Butt

The Denver Broncos drafted Noah Fant and re-signed Jeff Heuerman. They have Troy Fumagalli coming off injured reserve.

They need Jake Butt to step up this season as much as Butt needs to step up for the sake of his pro career.

The former All-American tight end has had a grueling couple of years in the NFL, coming back from an ACL injury he suffered in college his whole rookie season, getting back onto the field and looking good in year two, only to tear his ACL again.

Butt is — in my opinion — the best all-around tight end on the roster when healthy. He doesn’t have the highest ceiling — that belongs to Noah Fant. How quickly Fant reaches his potential remains to be seen.

Butt is a guy who looked like a first-round pick to me at Michigan. He was every bit the modern NFL tight end, capable of lining up in-line or playing the slot.

If he’s healthy, he’s a major asset to the offense.
