Denver Broncos guard Nico Falah suffered a torn Achilles in OTAs Monday, effectively ending his 2019 season.

Injuries in sports are not entirely avoidable. Sadly, that was the case for Denver Broncos guard Nico Falah.

Near the end of OTAs Monday, Falah was carted off the field with what turned out to be a torn Achilles’ tendon. The injury will knock him out a significant amount of time, including the entire 2019 season.

Falah is a reserve offensive lineman who was trying to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. The Broncos will likely place him on injured reserve.

Falah went undrafted out of USC in 2018 and signed with the Tennessee Titans in May of that year. In early September, he was waived but was quickly picked up on the New York Jets practice squad. The Denver Broncos snagged him off the Jets practice squad in late October.

Having players go down with injuries is never a good thing. It is especially inconvenient when it happens this early in the process of figuring out the 53-man roster. An injury can occur at any time and the injury to Falah proves that.

The Broncos currently have 15 offensive linemen on the 90-man roster, excluding Falah. The team is expected to keep seven or eight on the team once they are required to cut down to 53.

Denver is no stranger of an offensive line shakeup. They have gone through a lot of changes since the 2018 season, including when center Matt Paradis went down with an injury.

Paradis is no longer on the team, as he left for the Carolina Panthers in free agency.

Then they drafted offensive lineman Dalton Risner, who has been tried at multiple positions in the early stages of OTAs due to his versatility. He is expected to start week one at left guard.
