Denver Broncos: Analyzing the impact of each draft pick
Juwann Winfree, WR, Colorado
Whether people want to admit it or not, wide receiver is still a need on the team. The addition of Juwann Winfree is a fascinating study of what he can bring either in the future or right away. The position of wide receiver is undoubtedly the deepest it has been with young talent in quite some time. There’s always buzz surrounding positions because of all the new pieces.
However, with the potential for a healthy Emmanuel Sanders, wide receiver looks deep. Very deep. In perusing through the team’s website the other day, Winfree is listed as the same height as Courtland Sutton. Let that sit for a little while. Winfree is 6-foot-3. That’s identical to Sutton. When you watch Winfree play and the catch radius he presents it is understandable where that is a big deal. There is a talent level of Winfree that is quite appealing.
Winfree’s route running is pure bliss. It’s almost beautiful. Not to mention he has incredible hands and a willingness to win contested catch situations consistently.
In fact, when you watch Winfree make those insane grabs, Sanders does come to mind. Everything just screams tremendous impact, but keep in mind Winfree has injury baggage. He has dealt with plenty of injuries in the past and those are still a cause for concern. But, talent is still talent and it is so hard to ignore what could be with Winfree in the future.
