Jared Veldheer, OT

Is a reunion with Jared Veldheer still possible?

The Broncos have a strong starting five on the offensive line. They don’t necessarily need Veldheer to play right now. But what happens if Garett Bolles gets hurt? Ja’Wuan James?

The Broncos were trying to re-sign Billy Turner for a reason, and even though they ended up getting James instead, they still lack a true swing tackle with any sort of experience on the roster.

Elijah Wilkinson, a starter last year at guard, is the closest thing they have right now.

Other than that, the Broncos’ tackle position is loaded with uncertainty beyond the two starters. If I had to guess, right now I would say Dalton Risner, who is the Broncos’ projected starting right guard, would slide into a starting role at right tackle if there was an injury to Bolles with James moving to the left side.

Veldheer has played both tackle positions, so if the Broncos sustained an injury at either one, he could be a dependable player at either spot.

If he doesn’t cost a ton — and no one at this stage really does — he would be a fine pickup.
