The Denver Broncos filled out their roster with 23 rookies after the 2019 NFL Draft, but we know John Elway is never done tinkering with the roster.

The Denver Broncos and general manager John Elway are never done tinkering with the roster, even when it’s full at 90 players.

The Broncos still have areas they can improve after the 2019 NFL Draft, and other areas they simply need to add some depth.

At this point in the offseason, teams aren’t necessarily all scrambling for funds but things are relatively tight for the Broncos with just over $10 million in current cap space.

The Broncos like to save some of that money for emergency purposes, but should the need arise, they have to keep their eyes on a few players who are still on the open market.

Before we get into the players, I want to look at this team’s primary areas of need.

After putting together an early projection of the team’s 53-man roster, here are the positions I feel the Broncos need depth or could upgrade, in no particular order:

1. Offensive line
2. Defensive line
3. Edge
4. Linebacker
5. Cornerback

Now, the catch 22 with free agency is, if you sign veteran players to one-year contracts, you lose the opportunity to develop a young player at that same position. The question with the Broncos at this point is whether they are interested in investing in young, unproven guys who may or may not have draft status, or whether they would have a sure thing in case of emergency.

If it’s the former, some of these needs are drastically diminished. The Broncos have young guys they could try and develop at pretty much all of these position groups.

Even considering that, let’s take a look at some free agents the Broncos could keep tabs on and why they might be interested in signing them.
