Injuries to the tight ends

2018 alone was proof that the Denver Broncos are snake bitten at the tight end position. Denver drafted Jake Butt in 2017 and he has been very limited. His ACL injury he suffered in college kept him off the field his entire rookie year. Last season, he played in three games before suffering another ACL tear in practice before the week four matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jeff Heuerman was placed on injured reserve after the Week 12 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Troy Fumagalli will be returning this year after sitting out all last year with a sports hernia injury.

I believe the biggest issue here is Jake Butt. While he fell all the way to the fifth round in 2017, we have yet to see what he can do. His injury history could make him expendable.

We will have to knock on wood if Hockenson plays for the Broncos. But the injuries to tight ends are just overwhelming.
