Second round: Jeffery Simmons, DL, Mississippi State

It’s about 50-50 whether or not Jeffery Simmons falls to the Broncos’ pick in the second round of these mock draft simulations. I went between Simmons and Boston College’s Chris Lindstrom with this pick, among a number of other players and positions under consideration.

Here’s why.

First and foremost, when healthy, Simmons is a top five player for me in this draft class. He’s a scheme versatile defensive tackle who creates havoc on the interior with relative ease.

Watching him against Iowa in their January bowl game was like watching a grown man take on a bunch of high school kids. He was so dominant on the interior in that game, and when you turn on his tape over the course of the season, you see a lot of the same.

If he had not torn his ACL, Simmons would be one of my favorites for the 10th overall pick in this draft.

I think the Broncos would be getting a steal here and this pick is a bit of a look to the future unless you can get Simmons healthy at some point in October or November.

Though his injury is not as severe, this would almost be like having an extra 2020 first-round pick, as Simmons is that good of a player.

If he’s on the board in round two, I don’t mind waiting even a full season to see the fruits of this pick.
