Trade a 2nd-round pick for Josh Rosen

I’m not saying this is going to happen, but the Broncos — or any team considering drafting a quarterback this year, for that matter — would be stupid not to consider trading a second-round pick for Rosen.

I wrote almost 900 words on why this is a trade I would make if I were an NFL GM.

To sum up what I wrote there (please read it), you have to look at this move from the perspective of making it a year ago.

If the Broncos had been presented with the offer of the 10th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft for a 2nd-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, they would take that 100 percent of the time.

The Broncos maybe didn’t want to invest the 5th-overall pick in Rosen last year, but would they have given up a future 2nd-round pick to be able to draft him?

I would err on the side of yes, absolutely.

If you disagree with that, that’s a different conversation entirely. The Broncos didn’t pass on Rosen because they didn’t like him at all. They passed on Rosen because they didn’t view him as a top 5 player in the NFL Draft.

They felt the same about Josh Allen.

If the Broncos are going to take a QB in this year’s draft, regardless of what round it ends up being, why would you not trade a 2nd for Rosen, skip the signing bonuses (which the Cardinals paid already), skip the rookie lumps, and get the guy in the fold?

I will applaud whatever team trades anything less than a first for Rosen.
