Trade a 5th-round pick for Darron Lee

If I were John Elway, I would make sure a fifth-round draft pick is on the table in exchange for linebacker Darron Lee.

What would the Jets’ motivation be to trade their former first-round pick?

Well, they signed CJ Mosley to a monster deal this offseason and signed Avery Williamson to a huge deal last offseason.

Lee is a starting player in the NFL, one of the fastest off-ball linebackers in the game, and excellent in coverage.

If the Broncos don’t want either Devin White (or can’t get him) or Devin Bush in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and need to spend earlier picks on other areas, the compromise of adding Lee is something they need to look into.

The Broncos don’t have Paxton Lynch’s first-round contract on the books next year (would be his fifth-year option already) so that number could fit into the budget if they wanted to keep Lee around beyond this season.

I am not as down on Josey Jewell and Todd Davis as fits for the Fangio defense as others, though I agree the team needs a stud in coverage. I hope Joe Jones can be part of the solution but maybe they don’t want to count on that.
