Seventh round: Montre Hartage, CB, Northwestern
As the Broncos round out this draft class, they look back at the Northwestern program for a defensive player who could come in and provide special teams prowess immediately and develop down the road into a contributor on defense.
Montre Hartage is probably a solid 4th-5th round player but tested very poorly at the 2019 Scouting Combine.
He ran a 4.68 in the 40-yard dash and had a short wingspan and small hands.
Those all are significant factors in the evaluation process, but players like this available in round seven deserve to be drafted.
Hartage is as competitive as you will find at the cornerback position and finds ways to make plays on the football. He had nine interceptions and 26 pass breakups over the past three seasons.
He’s a developmental player with upside, and that’s exactly what you want at this stage of the NFL Draft.
