With the NFL Draft just a few weeks away, the Denver Broncos are bringing in Texas cornerback Kris Boyd as part of their pre-draft visits.

The NFL allows each team to host thirty players for pre-draft visits. The Denver Broncos met with Texas cornerback Kris Boyd Sunday night and will continue meeting with him throughout Monday.

South Carolina wide receiver/kick returner Deebo Samuel and Missouri quarterback Drew Lock are also scheduled to meet with Denver Monday. Lock has already had previous meetups with the team prior to this week.

Boyd is the type of cornerback new head coach Vic Fangio is looking for. In 45 games during his four seasons at Texas, Boyd recorded 172 total tackles (127 solo).

He recorded three interceptions and three forced fumbles during his collegiate career. In 2017 and 2018, he led the entire Big 12 with 15 pass breakups.

Some of the positives about Boyd: his size (6’0”, 195lbs), physicality, and ability to locate the football.

Those are some of the things Fangio is looking for. When free agency started, the Denver Broncos signed just three new players. Two of those players were cornerbacks Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan.

Both of signings were very important. Fangio made it clear as to what he wants from his defensive unit. Physicality.

Boyd has the speed to not only help out on defense, but potentially special teams. He ran the 40-yard dash at 4.45 seconds at the NFL Draft combine. He could be a nice addition as a punt returner.

According to a Regional Scout in the AFC,

"“In a weird way, I think he’s become more mentally tough by playing against teams like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and West Virginia. He’s had ups and downs but I don’t think he carries the mistakes with him like he used to.”via Lance Zierlein’s scouting report on NFL.com"

That last point is huge. In sports, especially as a defensive player in the National Football League, you cannot dwell on what happened the previous play. You have to move on. Learn from your mistakes.

Next. Why the Broncos won't draft a QB at 10. dark

The Broncos lost cornerback Bradley Roby to the Houston Texans in free agency, making cornerback an even bigger position of need than it already was. Behind Chris Harris Jr., the team has Callahan, Jackson, second-year pro Isaac Yiadom, Linden Stephens, and Horace Richardson.
