Though I have very mixed feelings about whether the Broncos will actually use a first-round pick on the quarterback position, the appeal of Drew Lock cannot be denied.

I did my own personal digging on Lock, not just for what he can do on the field but what kind of person he is off of it.

It’s safe to say that this kid is going to absolutely crush every single one of his interviews, and when you list out his top qualities, it’s easy to see why he’s a guaranteed top 10 selection in this year’s draft.

  • Huge arm
  • Likable personality
  • Hard worker
  • Multi-sport athlete
  • Four-year starter who has taken lumps

Sure, Lock occasionally struggles with poor footwork. He may forget at times that he’s not being chased around the backyard and throw off his back foot, but this guy has special skills in very important areas.

He’s experienced, threw nearly 100 touchdowns over four years of SEC play, and has franchise quarterback intangibles.

Drew Lock factoid of the day: He was a very good basketball player in high school and was recruited by top programs and initially hoped to play basketball at Mizzou in addition to football.

This kid is a natural athlete, wins people over easily, and when all is said and done, would it shock anyone if John Elway fell in love with him? He’s not anything close to the type of blank canvas Elway has brought in in previous years. He’s not a full year away from being NFL ready, either, in my opinion, and the Broncos must strongly consider drafting this kid if they feel he can be their franchise quarterback of the future.

The problem? Lock has formal meetings with teams other than Denver. Contrary to popular belief, his skillset could appeal to a number of teams in this year’s draft class, namely the New York Giants, who have the 6th overall pick.

There’s no guarantee the Giants will pass on Lock at 6, and there’s also no guarantee he will fall all the way to 10 without the Dolphins (13), Redskins (15), or Giants again (17) trading up to 8 or 9 if he does fall past 6.

If the Broncos want Lock, my guess is still that they would have to trade up to get him. If they can stand pat at 10 and still land him more power to them.
