San Jose State TE Josh Oliver will visit Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are in the market for some more athleticism at tight end, and San Jose State’s Josh Oliver could be an option.
The Denver Broncos are lining up pre-draft visits, including bringing in two of this year’s top quarterback prospects in Dwayne Haskins of Ohio State and Drew Lock of Missouri.
It makes sense that Denver is bringing in the high profile quarterbacks for an up-close look, as they decided not to interview those guys at the 2019 Scouting Combine.
The Broncos did talk to Drew Lock at the 2019 Senior Bowl, however.
What about someone for the quarterbacks to throw to? The Broncos will reportedly be hosting San Jose State tight end Josh Oliver for a pre-draft visit in addition to the reported quarterback visits.
A solid athlete at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, Oliver ran a 4.63-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine and paired that with a 34-inch vertical jump.
NFL.com considers him to be the eighth-best prospect at the tight end position in this year’s draft, which would make him a likely late day two or early day three pick.
This past year at San Jose State, Oliver set all new career marks with 56 receptions for 709 yards and four touchdowns.
At the point of attack, most draft analysts and scouts say that Oliver is improving. That’s important because the Broncos seem to value that highly in tight end prospects they have chosen.
This guy has the ability to play in-line over time as well as be a valuable ‘big slot’ when asked to do so. He’s not quite the athlete Noah Fant — the subject of our latest Broncos mock draft — is, but he’s a very good athlete and well-liked by his coaches.
We’ll do a deep film dive on him as we get closer to the NFL Draft, but if the Broncos are using a top 30 visit on him, he’s someone to keep an eye on.
