2. Quarterback

Regardless of what we think about Joe Flacco (I wasn’t a huge fan of the deal, but there are reasons not to hate it), the Broncos clearly made this position their highest priority this offseason after finding a head coach.

Denver didn’t sit around after Case Keenum’s 2018 season in which he threw for just 18 touchdowns and was unable to live up to his contract as a possible franchise quarterback.

Most people thought Keenum would be a bridge to a younger player, but as it turns out, he was a bridge to Flacco.

The Broncos’ front office and coaching staff came together and decided the 34-year-old Flacco was the best fit for Rich Scangarello’s offense going forward, so they invested a fourth-round draft pick and $18.5 million this year to bring him in.

That indicates to me that the Broncos are not sold on the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class, and won’t be taking one early, but I could be wrong about that.

Time will tell.

With Flacco, the Broncos have a veteran who has really seen and done it all. Can he still play at a high level? Will he excel in an iteration of the offense he had so much success with in 2014?

We will soon find out, but a fresh start for everyone was desperately needed. While the Broncos may not have solved this position permanently, they have certainly addressed it in a big way.
