Tight End Options

Jeff Heuerman, Broncos

The Broncos are apparently seeking a tight end who can block. Why would they look beyond their own guy, Jeff Heuerman, other than injuries?

Re-signing Heuerman wouldn’t prevent the Broncos from drafting a tight end early if they wanted, and would give them a guy who could start this year.

Heuerman’s health is a major question mark but he’s familiar with Denver and the Broncos have expressed on multiple occasions a desire to bring him back.

Maxx Williams, Ravens

Maxx Williams was expected to be a big time receiver coming out of college, but he’s turned into a heck of a run blocker and his upside as a receiver is starting to manifest itself.

Williams knows Joe Flacco well from their days in Baltimore, and he would provide the Broncos with a guy who can block and has upside. How about that for a novel concept?

Please no old blockers only

I don’t know why the Broncos would bring in old players who have no upside and only block, but they’ve shocked me before with personnel decisions.

I can’t fathom this team rostering a guy like Daniel Fells (no disrespect meant) when they have Jake Butt, Troy Fumagalli, and one of the best tight end drafts in recent years.

If the Broncos bring in a player who can only block and offers little/no upside as a receiver, it will be annoying.
