Dee Ford traded to San Francisco

The Kansas City Chiefs already released Justin Houston, and now they’ve traded Dee Ford.

Fine by me.

The Broncos no longer have to deal with:

Khalil Mack
Justin Houston
Dee Ford

Three Pro Bowl/All-Pro pass rushers. Now if the Chargers would just trade away Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram…

The Chiefs franchise tagged Ford and traded him for a high second-round pick. That’s a win for the 49ers, who now have a chance to pair Dee Ford with the best pass rusher in the 2019 NFL Draft, Joey Bosa.

The Chiefs?

I don’t know what they are doing.

They are now in a position where they may have to cut Eric Berry after signing Tyrann Mathieu to a monster deal. They have no pass rushers on the edge, though that will undoubtedly soon change.

It’s still odd to see them trade Ford and cut Houston in just about the same breath. Though their defense was poor almost all of last year, their saving grace in close games was the ability of Ford and Houston to close games. Those guys combined for 12 — seriously — forced fumbles last year.

Ford and Houston closed out games for Kansas City and also put the ball back in Patrick Mahomes’ hands. That kind of thing doesn’t just happen.

The Chiefs lost a huge reason for their success on offense last year. Who is creating turnovers for them up front? Chris Jones?

Though the Broncos have to face Patrick Mahomes (and that sucks) for the foreseeable future, the Chiefs definitely have an Achilles heel.
