First round: Devin Bush, LB, Michigan

Team captain? Check.

All-American? Check.

Big Ten defensive player of the year in 2018? Check.

Devin Bush will go underrated no more after an incredible performance at the 2019 Scouting Combine in which he ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash with a 40.5 inch vertical jump and a wingspan of 6-4 1/2 despite being just 5-11.

The big debate here would be between Bush and LSU’s Devin White. Both come from programs which already run a 3-4 defense, so both would be ready to play immediately. What would give Bush an edge if he and White are both on the board (they may not be)?

Bush played his college ball at Michigan where he was recruited by head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh was Vic Fangio’s boss for a number of years in San Francisco with the 49ers. Do you think Harbaugh would vouch for one of the best players he’s had at the linebacker position to the guy he coached with in the NFL who just so happens to be a linebacker expert?

There’s nothing wrong with White, who is going to be a very good player, but he’s a converted safety and watching both players play, I think I like Bush’ ability to get his hands dirty between the tackles a little bit more. Both are exceptional sideline-to-sideline athletes.

Bush would be a force in the middle of Denver’s defense.
