Blocking tight ends the Denver Broncos can pursue in free agency
Levine Toilolo, Detroit Lions
At 6-foot-8, nearly 270 pounds, Levine Toilolo is one of the biggest tight ends in the NFL.
He’s definitely not a seam stretcher or major threat in the passing game, but he has done well as a blocker throughout his career in the NFL, including the time he spent with — you guessed it — Wade Harman and the Atlanta Falcons.
Toilolo was most effective in Atlanta’s offense as a blocker and signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions in the 2018 offseason on a one-year deal, and he could be had likely for a pretty reasonable contract.
Toilolo’s familiarity with Harman, the opening in Denver, as well as Scangarello having even the vaguest connection here makes this move make sense.
You want an even vaguer connection? Toilolo played for Jim Harbaugh at Stanford where his path crossed with Vic Fangio, who was Stanford’s defensive coordinator in 2010.
He will be 28 in July, so the Broncos could give him a one-year trial run and see how things go.
