Seventh round: Brett Rypien, QB, Boise State

Why Brett Rypien?

Brett Rypien’s draft projection is kind of all over the board. Some people think he’s a day two pick, but in this mock draft scenario, he fell to my final pick in round seven.

How about that?

I figured at that point, why not test this out and see what the reaction is?

Rypien would be a fine addition anywhere from the fourth round on in my opinion, but in the seventh round, this is a guy that’s going to stick and he’s someone you can possibly look to as a key backup and spot starter down the road.

He’s a smart quarterback who relies on timing to fit the ball in tight windows, but he is also a gamer and elevated his game to another level in 2018, his fourth year as the starting quarterback for the Broncos.

The Broncos currently have Joe Flacco and Case Keenum on the roster. By the time the draft rolls around, they will have Joe Flacco and Garrett Grayson on the roster. This is a good use of draft capital to invest in a quarterback as not enough teams in the NFL draft and develop at this position very well.

Next. High risk, high reward free agent options for Denver. dark

The Broncos should start a new trend of drafting and developing quarterbacks well, so they have a pipeline in place. That’s easier said than done, but if you get the chance to add players like Rypien in round seven, you’d be a fool to pass on it.
