Sixth round: James Williams, RB, Washington State

Why James Williams?

Well, things didn’t work out last year with David Williams, who was picked off the Broncos’ practice squad by the Jacksonville Jaguars after being picked in the seventh round.

How about taking a shot on another Pac 12 running back who has been pretty overlooked?

Williams is an outstanding receiver at the running back position, and could give the Broncos an eventual replacement for Devontae Booker as well as a talented insurance policy in case there are any complications with Phillip Lindsay’s recovery.

There won’t be, I’m just saying.

The 49ers highly prioritized a back in Jerick McKinnon who was pretty strictly a pass catcher for the Vikings. That may be something Rich Scangarello covets in Denver as well. If that’s the case, there may be no better pass catching back in the draft than this guy.
