The position is not a huge need, but adding playmakers to an inept Denver Broncos offense is a top priority heading into free agency.

The wide receiver position is not a major need for the Denver Broncos heading into free agency, but the offense needs toys everywhere.

There is one wide receiver that would be of utmost priority and that Jamison Crowder. Crowder is one of a number of players at the position the Broncos could consider in free agency. It is a fascinating debate because Denver could address this spot in the draft or free agency.

Knowing John Elway, he is not one to sit on his hands in March.

Crowder’s versatility is one thing that puts him near the top of wide receivers Denver should show interest in. His ability to return punts and contribute as a slot receiver is vital. He fits the Swiss Army knife role and knocks out two birds with one stone.

Aside from last season’s injury, Crowder has proven to be one of the most underrated and consistent players in the league. That is, strictly for the position he plays. If he was a true number one or two, then he would be generating a lot more buzz.

While with the Washington Redskins, Crowder has been productive since day one and has gotten better each season. He went from 689 yards receiving to a consistent 847 and 789. Throughout his three seasons, he showed up in clutch situations time after time.

Also, one of Joe Flacco’s strong suits is working in the middle of the field. Within 10-yards, quarterbacks threw to Crowder 18 times and completed 14. That’s a 77 percent completion percentage, by the way. Pretty good, huh?

In this new offense built by Rich Scangarello and Joe Flacco at quarterback, the Broncos need a player that stretches every bit of the field. Seeing the value of the slot receiver lately, interest or consideration for Crowder makes sense.

Obviously, the team wants to see a future with DaeSean Hamilton, but if the window is still there Crowder should be on the table. Other notable players to consider are John Ross (trade), John Brown (Flacco’s ex-teammate), and Golden Tate (go big or go home candidate).
