Denver Broncos: Underrated free agent defensive linemen
Christian Covington, Houston Texans
Covington, a 6-foot-2, 310-pound inside tackle from Rice, has really become a nice rotational player with the Houston Texans over the past four years.
In 12 games in 2018, Covington had one of his most productive seasons yet as a professional, racking up eight quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.
He’s never been a full-time starter for Houston, but he’s certainly capable of it.
This past season, he played most of his snaps at left defensive tackle, but it remains to be seen if he can be a two-down nose tackle playing at least 50 percent of snaps.
There should be a strong market for Covington who has excelled at stopping the run in his career, but he could also wind up being a nice bargain in comparison to some of the other free agents available.
He’s ready for an expanded role and the Broncos could be the team to give it to him.
