Denver Broncos: Top 5 tight end options in free agency
2. Jesse James, Pittsburgh Steelers
Jesse James would fall in line (as would Maxx Williams and Tyler Kroft) with the Broncos looking to bring in a tight end from another Big Ten school.
They already have Jeff Heuerman (Ohio State), Jake Butt (Michigan), Troy Fumagalli (Wisconsin), and Matt LaCosse (Illinois).
One of the factors in James’ favor with the Broncos is the presence of Mike Munchak. Though he didn’t work directly with the tight ends, Munchak has certainly spent some time with James from their years together in Pittsburgh with the Steelers, and James is very likely a player Munchak is comfortable with.
Especially as a blocker, James would offer the Broncos a strong option at tight end, but he’s an exceptional athlete for a 6-foot-7 tight end and offers an additional dimension in the passing game.
He’s played in all 16 games each of the past three seasons and has nine career touchdown catches.
