Deandre Baker – University of Georgia

The second prospect I believe would contribute immediately to the Broncos is Deandre Baker. If Greedy Williams is taken off the board prior to Denver picking at 10, Baker is the next best choice.

Baker is a physical corner who really impressed me the last two seasons. I love going back to the Rose Bowl against Oklahoma where Baker took on Baker Mayfield.

Deandre Baker stayed hip to hip with some of Oklahoma’s most versatile wide receivers and demonstrated the ability to play man coverage.

Primarily, I believe that Baker’s best fit is inside of a zone coverage scheme at the professional level. Vic Fangio’s defensive philosophy includes some man coverage, but primarily it’s a lot of zone.

In addition to his versatility, Baker’s ball skills are impressive if he’s fit into coverage. He passes the eye test and does a great job of disguising coverages in Georgia’s scheme.

From a technique and fundamental standpoint (we’ve heard that from Coach Fangio), Baker would be a great fit for the Broncos on the outside in Fangio/Donatell’s defensive scheme.

Compared to Greedy Williams, Baker is more of a zone guy compared to William’s ability to be effective consistently in both zone and man coverage.

Regardless, I would not be disappointed if the Denver Broncos selected either guy with the 10th pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
